Welcome from Secretary-General Jennifer Padilla

Jennifer Padilla

Dear Faculty Advisors, Delegates, Parents, and Chaperones,

Welcome to NHSMUN 2017! My name is Jennifer Padilla, and I am honored to be serving as Secretary-General for the upcoming conference. On behalf of the International Model United Nations Association, it is my pleasure to invite you to the forty-third annual edition of NHSMUN, which will consist of two identical sessions in New York City from March 10-13 and March 15-18.

Known for its prestigious attendees and high-quality debate, NHSMUN is proud to be the largest Model United Nations conference in the world, with over 5,000 attendees from more than 50 different countries. For nearly half a century, NHSMUN has simulated international diplomacy as our staff guides students in their pursuit of solutions to some of the most controversial crises that threaten the political and economic stability of today’s globalized society. Our staff is dedicated to offering the most rewarding and enriching experience possible to all attendees, spending thousands of hours throughout the year enthusiastically preparing and training for the conference. To ensure this goal is met, our international, all-volunteer staff is composed of the world's most talented college students who were each carefully selected after a highly competitive application and interview process. Based on their undeniable work ethic, impressive skill sets, and areas of international relations expertise, we promise you that our staff members will provide an unsurpassed substantive experience that cannot be found elsewhere.

NHSMUN prides itself on the additional event opportunities we offer students and guests that enrich attendees’ experiences beyond committee simulations. One of the programs that sets us apart is our Mission Briefing Program. Often regarded as some of the most fulfilling aspects of the conference, mission briefings grant students the privilege to meet and interact with the diplomats of the very country that they are representing during their respective committee sessions. Additionally, we offer a series of panels with notable speakers, preparatory workshops and committee trainings, hands-on seminars in resolution writing, faculty simulations, topic expert panels, exclusive access to the United Nations General Assembly Hall, and so much more that undeniably makes the NHSMUN experience truly one of a kind.

I encourage you to familiarize yourself with our NHSMUN website; as the information here throughout the year will assist you with your preparation, registration, and travel plans, as well as provide students with valuable research tools. Be sure to visit the site regularly, as it will be updated frequently with pertinent information. Most importantly, however, If there is anything we can ever do to assist you throughout the course of the year, please do not hesitate to contact me at sg.nhsmun@imuna.org. We pride ourselves on our speedy response times to emails, and we are always available by telephone as well. There is no question too obvious to ask or inquiry too burdensome to make. This is why my staff and I are here, and I encourage you to take full advantage of the level of service NHSMUN provides!

I look forward to working with you and more importantly, welcoming you to NHSMUN in March!
